Have you ever wondered how it would feel to be carried away by the current? To embrace the unexpected? A strong wind, a tug from the depths, or a shift in the current... Changing Currents showcases the new waves in music: eclectic and distinctive! Swift away into the unexpected — from cinematic art pop, to disco punk, to electronic indie pop. Presented by five master’s students from the Pop Department of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

Ballroom Blitz
Pause the daily routine and hit factory reset. Line up for this Blitzkrieg of hard riffs, dirty synths and a touch of 808 kick. Ballroom blitz is an Amsterdam quartet that hovers between the loose groove of disco and the brutality of punk. Rules are not prescribed. Do your thing, and we'll do the same. Only we do it very loud and with glitter.

Fjaler
Fjaler makes deep electronic music blending intricately woven beats with serene and rich ambient textures. Confrontation meets contentment in stories that are found inside a sound. Live-sets are accompanied by visuals and present a journey in which the listener can travel through meditative and intense states alike.

Miss Starling
“Catchy in a way the Netherlands has never heard before”—that’s how the jury of the Amsterdamse Popprijs 2024 described her music when they announced her as the winner. Miss Starling combines electronic indie pop with a theatrical stage presence, creating a unique, magical universe. Through her performance, she shows how you can embrace both the light and the darkness in your life, showing that they can coexist in peace.

plbl
pIbI - pronounced peebee - is a sonic shape-shifter, weaving abstract textures, 80’s pop and rock into something liminal-familiar but unsettled, like a door you left open. Every sound feels worn-in yet uncanny, as if pulled from a dream you forgot you had.

Susann
Susann invites you to wander through her rich harmonies and personal lyrics, exploring what’s hiding beneath the surface. Her compositions are distinguished by theatrical and cinematic elements, soft and subtle - yet upfront, presenting an undercurrent tension. Artists such as James Blake, Bon Iver, Björk and Moses Sumney are a source of inspiration, setting her off on a quest for renewed, dynamic consonance.
