Opening: MILK solo Maarten Nico

MILK

On Thursday April 10 between 17:00 and 19:30, we will open Maarten Nico's new MILK solo at MILK Café.

Artist Maarten Nico presents artworks that are inspired by the Peter Pan Syndrome. This is a syndrome in which grown-ups struggle with the idea of growing up. Just like in the story of Peter Pan, they try to escape and make their way to Neverland.

Maarten Nico also prefers to approach the world from a childlike perspective, where everything is possible and nothing is fixed. He believes that Peter Pan syndrome can go hand in hand with an adult life. That is why he invites viewers to embrace their inner child and rediscover the value of open-mindedness.

The Milk Solo ‘Lurking Neverland’ presents a new sculptural installation in which various building materials and colorful plasterboards come together. The installation is inspired by Maarten Nico's daydreams. These daydreams occur in adult situations, such as doing chores around the house, whilst in his thoughts he’s already outside playing basketball on a sunny courtyard. Through this experience, Maarten playfully and unexpectedly discovered a new art form: ‘Plasterboard Mosaics’.

This exhibition is supported by the Mondriaan Fund and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
