AMAPIANO STAR DBN GOGO AND METROPOLE ORKEST TO OPEN ADE 25 AT MELKWEG

The South African DJ and producer will kick off the upcoming edition of ADE together with the Grammy-winning orchestra!

This year, DBN Gogo will perform the opening concert of the Amsterdam Dance Event. Together with the Metropole Orkest, she will pay tribute to one of the fastest-growing electronic music genres of recent years: Amapiano. The opening concert will take place for the ninth consecutive time at the Melkweg on Wednesday, 22 October.

DBN Gogo (Mandisa Radebe) is a DJ and music producer who has rapidly become a key figure in South Africa’s music scene. With her electrifying performances and eclectic DJ sets, she captivates audiences both at home and abroad. Amapiano, which emerged in 2016 from other South African house genres, is a unique blend of deep house, jazz, kwaito, and lounge music, distinguished by its signature piano melodies.

With her impressive ability to fuse different styles within the genre, along with her infectious energy and charisma behind the decks, DBN Gogo breaks boundaries and serves as an inspiration to a new generation of female artists.

“The connection between the DBN Gogo and Metropole Orkest is a real testament to the exchange of cultures and knowledge that ADE is aiming to showcase on some of our biggest stages. Our recent cultural exchange with Homecoming Festival 2025 in Nigeria, alongside other efforts for ADE 2025, underline the importance of mutual appreciation across continents.”

Wiecher Troost, Head of Program ADE

In recent years, Melkweg was one of the first venues in the Netherlands to programme Amapiano club nights such as Amapiano NL, Homecoming and Blendsworld. During ADE 2024, another major name in the genre, Uncle Waffles, performed to a sold-out crowd in the Max – Melkweg’s largest hall.

“In Amsterdam, Melkweg has long been one of the pioneers in programming non-Western music. The venue was among the first in the Netherlands to showcase Afrobeats and Amapiano artists and club nights.”

Het Parool, 2024

Over the years, the opening concert at Melkweg has become a prominent and forward-thinking part of Amsterdam Dance Event. Following successful collaborations with the likes of Henrik Schwarz (2016), Jameszoo (2017), Colin Benders (2018), SOHN (2019), Weval (2021), Suzanne Ciani (2022), Tinlicker (2023) and Miguel Atwood-Ferguson (2024), the Metropole Orkest now turns its focus to a relatively young genre with global reach.

Tickets for DBN Gogo & Metropole Orkest go on sale on Tuesday 6 May at 11:00 via Ticketmaster. Further information about the opening concert is available on the ADE and Melkweg websites.
